She used to come up with the non-existant words too, but, like you've said here, steering her in the right direction while acknowledging that the word (real or made up) did rhyme seemed to work. She quickly learned what was a word and what was just silly nonsense. Now at 5 she still loves to play the rhyming game, and will even now throw in a few made up words here and there just to be a goof.
